On 1 July, Sweden took over the Presidency of the European Union. Big challenges lie ahead for the EU: the economy, the environment and more. On VATSIM, the challenge will be of a different nature: to land safely in busy traffic in Stockholm (ESSA and ESSB), finding apron space at the small airport in Växjö (ESMX) and coping with Swedish autumn weather in Göteborg (ESGG) and Malmö (ESMS and EKCH).

On 15 October, it's time for Umeå on the Norrland coast.

Umeå is a university city with 28 000 students. Umeå's vision is to be a leading region for sustainable construction and government in cold climates by 2020. Umeå is hosting the informal meeting of ministers responsible for competitiveness on 14–16 October.
