EKEB - Esbjerg

E-mail Print PDF

The current Esbjerg Airport was opened in 1971. Esbjerg is the fifth largest city in Denmark, and is located in the southern part of Jutland, close to the North Sea. This makes the airport a large hub for helicopter traffic to the oil rigs in the North Sea. Before the bridge over the Great Belt (Storebæltsbroen) was opened, there were daily routes to Copenhagen. Now, the only scheduled  aircraft flights are to Aberdeen and Stavanger (Two other oil-rig hubs). Around 20 helicopter flights are daily carried out to and from the oil rigs.

Esbjerg has Tower service during bank-hours and AFIS service outside these. On VATSIM however we provide TWR service all day - when an ATC is online.
