When most Danish Airports has decreasing activity in the domestic traffic in the beginning of this century Aalborg was the only regional airport with increasing number of passengers. The airplane is the only fast mean of transportation from Aalborg to Copenhagen.
Located very close to the City Aalborg this airport serves both as civilian airport and air force base.
Today you see more than 10+ daily departures to Copenhagen, a flight of only 30 minutes. Furthermore you have connections to Billund, southern Norway, Faroe Islands and Helsinki and many charter flights. In 2004 approx 600.000 passengers used the airport.
Aalborg airport was build by the Germans during World War 2. It's ICAO code "EKYT" is said to be short of the words "Yellow target" which was the codename for the airport used by the allied.
