ESGP - Göteborg/Säve

E-mail Print PDF
Göteborg/Säve, or Göteborg City Airport, which is its commercial name, was constructed in 1940 as an air force base. The air wing based on the airport was withdrawn in 1969. Säve was then used mostly as a general aviation airfield, until Ryanair opened its first service from the airport in 2001. Today Ryanair serves around ten destinations from Säve, and is accompanied by Wizz Air and Air Berlin. Säve is still important for general aviation, with a flight club and commercial flight school based here, as well as police and ambulance helicopters.

Local regulations

TWR/AFIS

In real life Säve is closed at night between 2200 and 0700 local time, except for ambulance flights. Between 2200 and 0700 TWR service is not available, and instead AFIS is provided. On VATSIM, traffic is of course welcome around the clock, but be aware that AFIS may be provided if you fly here at night.

Be advised that when AFIS is provided you will only receive information about other traffic, as well as meteorological information, but no separation is provided.

Start-up and IFR clearance

Start-up permission is compulsory for IFR departures.

Note that unless otherwise instructed, aircraft cleared via SID shall climb to 5000 ft. This altitude is not included in the clearance, because it is stated in the SID charts.

Take-off and climb

Contact Göteborg Control when airborne, unless otherwise instructed.

Flight planning

If departing towards ALSIE VOR (ALS), flight plan via VADIN M/UM852.

Speed restrictions

Maximum speed in Göteborg TMA below FL100 is 250 knots, unless otherwise instructed by ATC.
Aircraft shall maintain minimum 160 knots on final until OM (RWY 01: until AV) or advise ATC if unable.

Visual approach

Visual approach is not permitted for jet aircraft.
