Växjö/Kronoberg, or VXO Smaland Airport which is its commercial name, was opened in 1975, after it had become apparent that Uråsa airfield south of the city of Växjö did not meet the requirements of growing traffic demands.
Today there are scheduled flights to Stockholm/Arlanda (with Skyways Fokker 50), Stockholm/Bromma, Mora and Berlin/Tegel (with Flysmaland Saab 340), and Düsseldorf Weeze (with Ryanair). There are also holiday charters to Mediterranean destinations, and occasionally to Thailand.

Noise abatement procedures
- RWY 19 right hand circuit.
- Jet aircraft and aircraft with MTOW above 5700 kg departing RWY 19: Left turn not to be commenced before passing MX DME 4.5.
Other information
- IFR clearance will normally be transmitted during taxi.
- All parking stands are "turn-around" stands, so push-back is normally not needed.
